Letting go of the past, living today amply and keeping a careful eye on tomorrow is one way of feeling this warmth.
Have you ever thought of your life after retirement? If not and if you are already out of your 30’s, this is the right time to do so. Having a healthy and hearty post retirement life is as important as it is to lead a contented life today. At least, if we can visualise how we are going to spend our lives after our work life is accomplished, it would create a structure for our liberated days and nights. Each one of us has a busy schedule throughout our working life. However, the fact is that when the day arrives for some carefree living – most of us are ill-equipped.
Getting involved in each-other’s life is a good way of spending day time post retirement. First of all it keeps one involved. Moreover the days look much more interesting and meaningful. Second be positive about the passing time. Always look at the bright side
I remember retirement for my grandfather. Every day he will pick up his fancy walking stick and go for his morning and evening walk. The walking sticks would change but not the routine. During vacations, we sisters would accompany him. Slowly, he made several friends who would go together with him on these walks. They would visit the temple together, chat at the grocery store nearby or walk in the NCC grounds nearby.
He would help us with our studies, visit our friends. I recall that once, on my birthday when our parents were not at home, he arranged a small tea party where I made the tea and he himself bought the snacks. Till date I do not know if he had it all planned. However he asked us to invite a couple of my friends which we happily did.
My mother in law has a fabulous life after her retirement. She and my father in law have settled down in a small village after their retirement. They are surrounded by their extended families that live close by. There are numerous ceremonies for various ages of people which they regularly attend. They help each other in illness.
By the time we retire we may not have our family near us like in the old days. Our children may live in far off places that we don’t find comfortable to stay.
So…Keeping busy, helping others, keeping positive are good ways to spend retirement.
